Celtic midfielder Aaron Mooy has revealed how Ange Postecoglou and his coaching staff keep the squad motivated.
The 32-year-old was a somewhat surprising addition to the Hoops squad in the summer, joining the club as a free agent.
After spending several months without a club, it took the Australian midfielder to build up his fitness. However, there were glimpses of what Mooy was capable of.
The former English Premier League man started to pick up speed towards the end of last year and is now seen as an important contributor to the Celtic squad.
Particularly after his time at the World Cup out in Qatar with his nation, the midfielder is really hitting top form under Ange Postecoglou.
At the weekend, Mooy added two more goals to his tally for Celtic, helping the Bhoys to a 5-0 win over Greenock Morton in the Scottish Cup.
Speaking in the aftermath of the game, the Socceroos great reflected on the impact Ange Postecoglou has had and continues to have on his career.
Mooy also revealed how the Celtic manager and his coaching staff keep the squad motivated as we eye up more trophy success this season.
He said [Daily Record]: “He’s been very important in my career. I’ve enjoyed working with him before, I enjoy working with him now, but I’m just one of the lads, just trying to be part of the team having a good season.”
“How does he keep everyone motivated? That’s the result of his motivational speeches. He’s always on us. And it’s not just him; it’s all the other staff as well.
“They’re on to us every day. We all buy into it, and training is always high level, high intensity, high work rate – forget the past and look to the next challenge.
“That’s the same whether we’re playing in the Champions League or at home to Morton in the Cup. The standards are high, and you don’t get away with taking it easy in training.
“We don’t look too far forward, just the next game.”
Aaron Mooy is the perfect example of the effect Ange Postecoglou can have on players.
As mentioned, when Aaron Mooy arrived at Celtic in the summer, he was a somewhat surprising addition to the squad.
Although the Hoops had previously been linked with a move for the experienced midfielder, it almost felt as if the right time for both parties had passed.
However, the Celtic boss made his move, and it has been completely justified, with Mooy playing a big part in the midfield three for the Bhoys this season.
Of course, Mooy and Postecoglou go several years back, having worked alongside one another in the Australian international setup.
So the two have a prior relationship before they met up once again at Celtic.
For players who may be reluctant or considering a move to Parkhead, then Mooy is the perfect example of what Ange Postecoglou can do for a player’s career.
After a disappointing few years, the 57-year-old turned things around for the international midfielder, bringing him to Glasgow and having confidence in his ability.
Both parties are now very much reaping the rewards, and Mooy is bound to be a key contributor for the rest of the season if he can keep up this fantastic form.
